There are some things in life no one enjoys paying for. Insurance. Irons. Broccoli. Professional security shouldn’t be one of them, argues Acclaimed Security’s Richard McElroy.
When you consider just how little security costs, it’s somewhat surprising that not everyone uses it. Our keyholder service costs just £1 a day. If there’s an alarm callout, it will be £40, around half what it will cost for a callout to fix your washing machine.
And yet, businesses invariably choose professional security not because it makes sound business, personal and commercial sense, but for one of these three reasons:
Insurance: Often, and depending on your industry, insurers won’t insure you without a professional security team in place. Where they will insure you, you’ll typically be able to lower the premium when the alarm response team is professional, licensed and accredited.
A change of supplier: Just because your insurer demands the presence of an expert security team, doesn’t mean they’ll be up to your standards. Often we’ll be called in to take over the security arrangements from a previous supplier.
Bitter experience: It’s unfortunate that many companies choose professional security only after an incident has taken place. When you consider the potential not just for criminal damage but for personal harm in intruder break-ins, this is rather worrying.
Sometimes, following a theft, we might be called in to provide 24/7 cover for a month or so until the immediacy of the event tails off. What’s striking is that in the few instances where someone has suffered harm as a result of an incident, the effect on the business and the people in it is far more pronounced. We’ll often build relationships with these companies that span years.
Commissioning a professional security team is an opportunity to save your staff from risk and potential harm. It enables you and those you might otherwise let handle the keys to enjoy a good night’s sleep, free from worry. It deters criminal activity and, where damage does take place, it ensures someone is either already on the scene (in the case of our manned guarding services) or can be there fast to limit its extent.
I would argue that makes it one business expense to be taken (almost) with relish rather than reluctance. To explore ways we can help protect your people and premises, please contact us or call us on 0345 838 3400.
